About

The sounds of “cumbia rebajada”, a style created by slowing down vintage Colombian cumbia records on turntables, started in Monterrey, NL Mexico and spread to the entire northern Mexican and US/southwest region including El Paso, Tx and Cd. Juarez, where Frontera Bugalú is based. Like a portal to the universe of cumbia, “rebajada” exposed them to many other styles within the genre. The band began by playing weddings, backyard parties, quinceaneras, and small bars along the border, playing a mix of Mexican and Colombian standards sprinkled with original songs. After many years and recordings, they have developed their own unique cumbia style and contagious live set, lead by a button accordion that sonically travels from region to region – bringing lyrics that narrate the stories of Latinos in the US and across Latin America. They have shared the stage with many from the Latin music scene such as La Santa Cecilia, Los Lobos, Yeison Landero, and Celo Piña, among many others and have become a favorite in the American southwest. Frontera’s infectious “Sacame a Bailar (Live from Xotchimiclo)” garnered over 200k views on YouTube on its debut weekend.
