About
William Benckert is a pianist and composer based out of Stockholm, Sweden. From solo projects to composing for the renowned Nobel Museum, Benckert’s candid musicianship has already earned him recognition as a brilliant musician and exciting composer. Challenging the concept of musical instruments, he’s arranged several notable compositions by means of unconventional measures. To raise awareness about the imminent issue of plastic pollution, he composed a reimagined rendition of “What A Wonderful World” – using nothing but plastic items – for the 100-year celebration of the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Science in 2019. In a similar fashion, the Swedish National Anthem was brought to new life by Benckert through the exclusive use of sounds from the National Royal Archives, for its 400th year anniversary. With an open mind, Benckert continues to explore his musical realm, experimenting with textures, inflection and progressions through his fine-tuned jazz compositions. His music can be likened to the elements of great conversation - a strong dynamic flow, unexpected turns, and prolific harmonies. The deceptive nature of the jazz of William Benckert lies within its organic character and ease of performance, which in truth takes incredible skill to execute. Tasteful yet exciting, with complex patterns and a fervent lead piano, the music expands progressively, revealing its many layers at its own pace.
