Grammy-winning DJ, producer, and all-round icon Honey Dijon has dropped the first remix in our collab series, Extra Version. Keep reading for the lowdown.

Who is Honey Dijon?

Chicago is the birthplace of house music. To Honey Dijon, that means something — since moving from the Windy City to New York in the ’90s, she’s relished the best of both worlds. Blending classic Chicago four-on-the-floor with NYC flavor, her cross-genre DJ sets have slayed stages from Glastonbury to Berghain, Coachella to Reading & Leeds.

Influenced by house legend Derrick Carter and Grammy-nominated DJ Danny Tenaglia, Honey’s meticulous mixing and next-level transitions led to production gigs. Madonna, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and Beyoncé are just a few of her credits, the latter of which won a Grammy.

Honey has released two studio albums under her own name, and continues to push herself through the corners of expectation and into the unknown.

She’s a proud LGBTQ+ advocate and fashion legend, creating mixes for Dior and Louis Vuitton runway shows, hooking up with other brands, and releasing her own collections.

And now, together with Epidemic Sound, Honey Dijon kicks off the first edition of our remix series: Extra Version.

What is Extra Version?

Extra Version is Epidemic Sound’s new remix series, during which top-tier DJs and producers reimagine classic tracks from our catalog.

Epidemic Sound’s creator community can then access these remixes on our platform, which are fully cleared and ready to use in content without risking takedowns or legal hiccups. The remixes are also available on all major streaming services.

It’s a game-changing move, allowing globally renowned artists to experiment with our roster without waiving their rights, representation, or creative control.

“At Epidemic Sound, we’re creating new avenues for collaboration, distribution, and music discovery, empowering artists and creators to connect, innovate and thrive in a creator-first world,” says Oscar Höglund, CEO and co-founder of Epidemic Sound.

“With Extra Version, we’re taking the first steps in building a new model that connects the world’s most influential artists with beloved content creators, expands the reach of every remix, and empowers creators with sound that resonates. It’s a step forward for artist discovery, brand amplification, and the long-term relevance of music across platforms.”

Honey Dijon

Who has Honey Dijon worked with for Extra Version?

Honey Dijon has remixed Umbélé, a 2024 track written and performed by Ebo Krdum and Ooyy. Honey brings her signature sauce to the table, amplifying the original track’s raw spirit with a fresh, tribal-house garnish. Her signature kick punctuates Ebo’s expressive lyrics, percussion and vocals drifting in and out of the stereo field.

Learn a little more about Ebo and Ooyy below.

Ebo Krdum

Ebo Krdum is a Sudanese-Swedish Afroblues master and political activist. He learned to drum at the age of six and built his own guitar as a teenager, going on to collaborate with United Nations agencies and win a Swedish Grammy.

“The word ‘Umbélé’ means Relax, Take it Easy,” says Ebo. “The track tells a story of comfort and hope — a mother encouraging her child to dance away their sadness. In a world full of challenges, music becomes a source of light and energy to keep going.”

Ooyy

Ooyy is a Swedish producer-songwriter, whipping up a unique blend of ambient house, future bass, and field recordings. Videos soundtracked by his music have reached nearly 14 billion impressions across YouTube and TikTok.

“It’s such an honor to have Honey Dijon remix one of my favorite tracks of my own,” says Ooyy. “The way she gave the track a new life through the rhythm and percussive elements is so special. I feel like it’s such a vibe!”

What happens next?

Honey’s remix is out in the wild now. Listen to it, use it in your projects, slice it up into individual stems — this track is yours to explore.

The next Extra Version drops in July, courtesy of Switch, the Grammy-nominated founding member of Major Lazer. In August, we’ll have a fresh remix from rising EDM star jeonghyeon, with more Extra Versions later in the year.

That’s a lot to chew on. We’ll give Honey the final word on why Extra Version is such a game-changer, though.

““Flipping ‘Umbélé’ was a chance to sprinkle some Honey on it and share that energy with creators everywhere,” says Honey. “It’s all about freedom, fun, and keeping the groove 100%.

“Teaming up with Epidemic Sound was a vibe — they’re shaking things up in the best way.”
