Another month, another wild time online. Join Epidemic Sound’s community manager, Madie Hooker, as she breaks down four of the latest TikTok trends.

Trend 1: Will Smith looked delighted when faced with Anxiety

It’s no exaggeration to call TikTok the new radio — it can turn just about any song into an overnight sensation. Doechii’s 2019 track, Anxiety, didn’t make much of a splash when it first dropped, despite the US rapper having since won a Grammy. Fast forward to 2025, and Anxiety’s spearheading one of the year’s hottest TikTok trends.

As always with TikTok, the story gets complicated. Sleepy Hallow, another artist, sampled Anxiety in 2023. That took off, and TikTok users hunted down the original track. One user, Morgan B, used Anxiety to soundtrack the iconic Will/Ali dance scene from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That video blew up, resulting in a full-on dance trend.

The whole thing peaked with Will Smith recreating the timeless scene from 1990 on TikTok, alongside Tatyana Ali and Doechii herself.

Trend 2: Hozier’s yell was lovingly memed

If people go out of their way to meme you, hey — at least you’re unique. This year, Irish songwriter Hozier discovered that his voice soundtracks some of the most epic footage on the internet.

Hozier’s 2020 collab track with Noah Kahan, Northern Attitude, features a super-specific yell. It’s nothing weird or offensive — it’s just a from-the-heart, transportative yell over some stirring folk music.

Five years later, “A moment that felt just like Hozier’s yell” was born. Unbelievable landscapes, marriage proposals, bungee-jumping, and more have all become internet gold thanks to that fifteen-second slice of music.

Trend 3: Unhinged hacks got, well, unhinged

TikTok’s a place for creativity, sure. It’s also become a search engine — somewhere to ask real people the questions Google can’t quite answer. The stranger questions. The, well, unhinged questions.

Backed by Sergei Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights, the unhinged hacks craze emerged. Ever tried stacking heavy textbooks on your head to cure a migraine? How about starting imaginary fights with people and crying in your car to learn a new language? Yeah, we can’t endorse any of that…but it’s still pretty funny.

Trend 4: They just didn’t know it yet

We’re trying to keep things upbeat here, but the “doesn’t know it yet” trend has fairly dark origins. Users would post footage of their seemingly regular day — they could have been out for a jog, sipping a coffee, or taking the bus. The caption would read that the user “doesn’t know it yet, but [insert tragic life event here]”.

Some people experienced life-changing injuries, while others suffered emotional trauma. It was a sobering trend, and has since developed a positive slant, such as people meeting their soulmates or scoring a great job. And then, like most things on TikTok, it ended up being used for comedy.
